Art connects us with others across space, time and culture. It teaches, entertains and inspires. It helps us understand that we are not alone — that others have felt the same way that we do, even if that feeling is one of loneliness or isolation.
I lost my mother several years ago. Seeing the work of some of her favorite artists, such as Monet’s gardens, the Van Gogh print that she hung in my childhood home, or Degas’ ballerinas, reminds me of good times spent with her, and all the things, great and small, that she taught me. I miss you, Mom!
