Our Story
The Gallery@57 was born from a vibrant series of artist-driven pop-ups that began in 2016 at 480 Main St., Malden, MA. When the lease for that space ended in 2018, it left many in the community disheartened. Yet, in the face of this loss, the creativity, generosity, and unwavering support of the community rallied together, sparking a new vision.
This spirit of collaboration paved the way for The Gallery@57. In July 2019, an opportunity arose, and the gallery secured a permanent home at 57 Pleasant Street, right in the heart of Malden Center’s transformation. On October 25, 2019, The Gallery@57 opened its doors, marking a new chapter in Malden’s arts scene.
Just five months later, like many businesses, The Gallery@57 faced an unexpected challenge—closing its doors for six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the community of artists and supporters refused to let the gallery become another casualty of the times. In a show of resilience, the gallery launched a unique online shop on April 23, 2020, allowing it to continue supporting local artists.
Since then, The Gallery@57 has expanded its offerings beyond showcasing the beautiful work of over 60 local artists, authors, and artisans. It now also provides:
- Art classes at Idle Hands Craft Ales
- Bi-monthly art exhibitions and receptions
- Art demonstrations, book readings, and musical performances
- Pop-ups at local festivals and businesses
- Art curation and exhibitions for local businesses and community organizations
The Gallery@57 stands as a testament to the commitment of a city, its artists, and the community that supports them. We warmly invite you to visit and experience the creativity that thrives here.
